So I am walking home in Brooklyn, late afternoon and pass an interesting looking arrangement. A man, with a large sign above his head, sitting on an inflatable plastic couch in front of closed stores, offering cookies to complete strangers. The first thought always is... so what is he selling? I look at the sign, searching for answers and become trully intrigued. All it says is: "Scott Alexander Makes Friends". So now I have to stop and ask some questions. Scott, who is a musician, is a friendly looking guy who has an air of sincerity when he speaks and an obvious creative approach to networking. His music seems to be as interesting and unique as he is. The lovely part about his cookie marketing is that instead of trying to push his music or sell you a cd (neither of which were anywhere to be found while I munched on cookies), he seemed to be spending all of the time talking to people, shaking hands, and yes, handing out his chocolate chip vegan cookies, which were delicious, moist and perfectly chewy :) So that was my experience with Scott Alexander, a lovely break from the day, a kind offering of free cookies and a nice (though short) conversation with someone who is using his creativity, friendly personality and generosity to get to meet new people and bring them a sweet moment and a handshake on what could sometimes be one of people's bitter days. Check out his website at: and look for him and his delicious cookies on the streets of New York.

We support most of our projects with proceeds from our store. Our store is supplied mostly by fair trade, organic or small community projects. A large percentage of the sales go to charities in the same area, for a total investment of 40-50% of the total price directly affecting those communities. |
